Royal Blue Rooster Farm is a small sustainable farm in Carlisle, MA. We raise chickens, honey bees, and a variety of produce. We sell our eggs, honey, and produce seasonally direct from the farmhouse to local customers.
About the Farm's Name
No, we don't actually have a Royal Blue Rooster. The farm's name is a play on the last names of the family that runs the farm. The origin of the farmer's name is French "le Coq" which means "The Rooster". It was transliterated to "de Kock" when his ancestors moved to the Netherlands prior to immigrating to the United States where we've continued to modify it to "DeKock". Meanwhile, the farmer's wife's name, "Tatistcheff", is Russian Nobility (prior to the fall of the Czar) and she can trace her lineage all the way back to Rurik the founder of Russia. Royal Blue also happens to be the farmer's favorite color. Hence the name Royal Blue Rooster Farm.
About Sustainability
We practice sustainable operations for both our farm and our sales, working to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Our chicken coops are almost entirely made out of lumber from our own trees and excess components from other buildings. We strive to let our chickens free-range as much as possible so they need less purchased chicken feed. And our bees forage entirely for themselves, except in times of stress where we may feed them enough to keep them alive and healthy.
In our sales, we will only package our goods into re-useable containers. Recycling containers is much better than throwing them away, but is still very costly. We believe strongly in the importance of reusing containers, even if those containers cost more than than a cheap plastic recyclable container.
Location
We are located in Carlisle, MA as shown on the map. We are never open for general business and don't have a farm stand on the property. We will then be able to arrange for pickup, or in some cases delivery, of our products.
Ownership
Royal Blue Rooster Farm is another name for Royal Blue Rooster Farm, L.L.C. which is owned by Jonathan DeKock of Carlisle, MA, and operated by him and his wife, Elizabeth (Lee) Tatistcheff. This website, social media accounts, the farm animals, their hives and coops, and all the products for sale are owned by Royal Blue Rooster Farm, L.L.C..
